Patrick Vieira appointed head coach of Senegal national team
French specialist Patrick Vieira has taken charge of the Senegal national team, the country's Football Federation has announced.
Operativ Media reports that Vieira's last managerial role was at Genoa, which he left in November 2025. Throughout his coaching career, he has also managed Strasbourg, Crystal Palace, New York City FC, Nice, and Manchester City's youth team.
The French tactician succeeds Pape Thiaw, who had been in the post since 2024. It was noted that although the Senegalese team won the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football later awarded them a forfeit defeat due to conduct during the final match. Meanwhile, Senegal reached the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, where they lost 3-2 to Belgium in extra time.
