Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan are assessed as "small-to-middle powers" with growing influence in strategic sectors despite limited resources.

Operativ Media reports that this was highlighted in an article published by the Financial Times.

The article notes that while the three nations are not among the major powers setting the global agenda, they are expanding their international influence across energy, transport, regional security, mediation, finance, and technology, underpinned by their advantageous geographic locations.

Uzbekistan's status as the most populous country in Central Asia, along with its strategic geographic position, allows it to play an increasingly significant role in regional trade and diplomacy.

Kazakhstan's oil and uranium reserves, coupled with its position between Russia and China, extend its influence beyond regional borders. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan stands out for its energy resources, its position along the East-West trade route, and its role in the South Caucasus.

The article highlighted the Middle Corridor as an example of the trio's expanding capabilities. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are key participants in this route connecting Asia and Europe, with Uzbekistan actively joining the initiative.

It noted that, although more complex than the Northern Corridor running through Russia, the Middle Corridor provides an alternative transport route for governments and businesses.

Additionally, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan are cooperating on developing the Caspian Green Energy Corridor, designed to transmit renewable energy from Central Asia via Azerbaijan. The project aims to connect the region to Europe through an undersea cable laid across the Black Sea.
