Operativ Media reports that President Ilham Aliyev laid a wreath at the monument.

The monument was erected in the center of the "Yangi Uzbekiston" ("New Uzbekistan") complex to mark the 30th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. The Independence Monument is crowned with a statue of the mythical Humo bird with outstretched wings, symbolizing peace, freedom, kindness, and happiness. The monument was designed upon the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
