AZERTAC reports that the heads of state first cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the higher education institution.

President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev planted a tree in the university courtyard.

The heads of state of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were briefed on the history of the Nizami Ganjavi National Pedagogical University and the facilities established there.

In 1935, the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute was established based on the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Central Asian State University. In 1947, the educational institution was renamed the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute, and since 1998 it has operated as the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University.

The university's alumni include numerous prominent figures who have made significant contributions to the development of Uzbekistan's literature, culture, science, and public life.

The university structure comprises six pedagogical higher schools, as well as one Joint Education Higher School and one master's department, with a total of 33 departments. The university trains specialists across 38 undergraduate and 31 graduate majors. With an academic and teaching staff of 730, more than 17,000 students—including six Azerbaijani citizens studying as undergraduate, graduate students, and independent researchers—are enrolled. Additionally, 250 students from 13 countries pursue their studies here.

The university places special emphasis on implementing international educational programs. It has established close cooperation with 15 international educational organizations and 127 universities across 20 countries, as well as with UNESCO and UNICEF. Twelve joint educational programs are implemented here. Four international educational and cultural centers also operate: Azerbaijani, Kazakh, South Korean, and Chinese centers.

The Nizami Ganjavi National Pedagogical University has signed memorandums of understanding with Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Baku Slavic University, Baku State University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Mingachevir State University, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, and Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. Within this framework, joint scientific research and international conferences, academic and scientific exchanges, and cultural-educational ties are being developed. Through cooperation with Azerbaijan, the first five graduates of Full Secondary School No. 1 named after Mirzo Ulugbek in the city of Fuzuli earned the right to study at this university on a grant basis.

Construction of the university's new campus on a 40-hectare site in "New Tashkent" is currently underway. The project envisions academic buildings accommodating 20,000 students and dormitories for 5,000 students. The new campus will also house the Nizami Ganjavi Museum and university history museums.

The heads of state met and spoke with the university's faculty and students.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Full Secondary School No. 1 named after Mirzo Ulugbek in Fuzuli serves as a symbol of Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan brotherhood, while the university's new building reflects the ancient and modern values uniting the two countries, as well as the unity of their peoples.

It was noted that over the three years since Mirzo Ulugbek School No. 1 began operating, friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijani and Uzbek students have flourished. Teachers from the school take part in training sessions in Tashkent on core skills required for 21st-century educators. It was also noted that 20 percent of the school's graduates have been admitted to the Nizami Ganjavi National Pedagogical University in Tashkent.

Principal of Mirzo Ulugbek Full Secondary School No. 1 Hajar Mahmudova expressed her gratitude to Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev for their support in strengthening Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan brotherhood and educational cooperation.
