The "Alufar Ironman 70.3 Baku" international triathlon will be held in Baku for the first time on September 5.

The Baku City Circuit Operations Company informed Operativ Media about the event.

The race will be organized jointly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation, and the Baku City Circuit Operations Company.

A total of 1,500 athletes from 62 countries are expected to take part. Competitors will tackle a 1.9-kilometer swim in the Caspian Sea, a 90.1-kilometer cycling stage spanning various parts of the city, and a 21.1-kilometer run along the Baku Boulevard. The finish line will be located near the "Seven Beauties" fountain.

The top 25 finishers in both the men's and women's categories will qualify for the 2027 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in the United States.

Ahead of the main event, the "Ironkids" race for various age categories and a 5-kilometer "Fun Run" for participants over the age of 18 will take place on September 4. In the "Ironkids" event, children aged 5–8 will race across 500 meters, participants aged 9–13 will cover 1 kilometer, and those aged 14–17 will run 2 kilometers.

The inaugural race of the Ironman series was held in Hawaii in 1978.
