Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Operativ Media reports that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.

During the protocol part of the meeting, Putin expressed Russia's solidarity with the Iranian people.

Masoud Pezeshkian, in turn, thanked Russia for its stance:

"You have supported us in the UN and other international organizations. We thank you and are grateful. Our relations are strategic. We believe and are confident that in this way we can counter US unilateralism and all the unjust sanctions imposed on us. We can somehow bypass them, overcome all unilateralism within frameworks like the SCO and other organizations, and thus cooperate on a multilateral level."
