Trump: We are not interested in reaching a new deal with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has said he is not interested in reaching any new deal with Tehran and remains satisfied with current economic pressure mechanisms.

Operativ Media reports that the U.S. president emphasized on his social media page that his country is not trying to draw Iran into dialogue, refuting reports by ABC News to that effect. He noted that signing any document of value with Tehran is of no importance to him.

The White House leader added that Washington maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz and the Iranian economy being in a deep crisis fully serve U.S. interests under current circumstances. According to him, the Iranian leadership is simply dragging out the process, and it raises the question of when the people will rise up in protest.

As a reminder, the U.S. and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. In June, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, Washington resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, citing violations of the terms of the agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Following the situation around this strategic strait, through which approximately 25 percent of global oil trade and 20 percent of liquefied natural gas supplies pass, the U.S. administration demonstrated at the end of August that it had abandoned the use of large-scale military force, shifting instead to a policy of economic pressure through sanctions.
