Ilham Aliyev receives OSCE Parliamentary Assembly president
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Pere Joan Pons Sanpietro, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, on September 3.
Operativ Media reports that the guest noted that one of the existing conflicts in the OSCE area has been resolved and lasting peace has been ensured in the region, congratulating the head of state on the achievements made in the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Expressing gratitude for the congratulations, the head of state noted with regret that the OSCE Minsk Group, which was responsible for resolving the conflict for nearly 30 years, failed to achieve any results in the negotiation process, and that UN Security Council resolutions demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani territory were not implemented.
President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan itself ended the conflict through military-political means, securing its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
During the conversation, satisfaction was expressed with Azerbaijan's contacts and political dialogue with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in contrast to some other European parliamentary institutions.
The importance of demonstrating a balanced approach to the entire OSCE area on the agenda of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was also emphasized.
The meeting also touched upon intercultural dialogue, with Azerbaijan's role and contributions to this process noted with satisfaction.
Highlighting the importance of the 4th International Conference on Mine Action held in Baku under the theme "Humanitarian Mine Action for the Restoration of Cities: Defining Standards of Excellence for Safe Settlements," the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly noted that the landmine issue is also discussed on the agenda of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
