Opening ceremony of World Judo Championships held in Baku
The opening ceremony of the World Judo Championships has begun in Baku.
Operativ Media reports that the event is taking place at the National Gymnastics Arena.
The World Judo Championships, which got underway yesterday, will conclude on October 11. A total of 622 judokas – 335 men and 287 women – from 93 countries are competing in the most prestigious tournament on the international judo calendar. Azerbaijan is represented by 24 judokas (17 men and 7 women) across 13 weight categories in the individual competitions. The national team will also test its strength in the mixed team event on October 11.
So far, the national team has one medal. Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg), who joined the competition on the opening day, defeated all his opponents to become the world champion.
