Drug smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan prevented
As a result of comprehensive search and customs control measures carried out by officers of the Astara Customs Department of the State Customs Committee, a particularly large quantity of drugs has been discovered and seized from illegal circulation.
Operativ Media reports, citing the committee, that a cargo vehicle entering the country from Iran was inspected at the import control line of the "Astara" customs post.
Although no items hidden from customs control were found in the vehicle during the inspection, the driver's behavior raised suspicion among the customs officers.
Consequently, a personal search was conducted on the driver. During the search, a large quantity of drugs—specifically 3,000 methadone pills in three packages strapped to his waist with a corset—was discovered.
In addition, during the customs control measures, two packages that the driver had thrown onto the territory of the customs post were also inspected.
During the inspection, a particularly large quantity of homemade heroin, with a total net weight of 2 kilograms 950 grams, was found in those packages.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
