Azerbaijan responds to Armenia's provocative statement at OSCE PA
Recently, certain circles in Armenia have been taking steps that do not serve the peace process. Speculation regarding individuals prosecuted in Azerbaijan for war crimes and crimes against humanity is among such actions.
Operativ Media reports that the raising of this issue by Armenia's permanent representative to the UN at the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly on October 2, 2026, shows that the Armenian government itself is behind these processes.
On October 7, during the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Andorra, Lilit Galstyan, a member of the Armenian delegation and chair of the Armenian parliament's Standing Committee on Human Rights, also raised this issue in a provocative speech.
Gaya Mammadov, head of the Azerbaijani delegation, emphasized that bringing individuals involved in war crimes and crimes against humanity to justice is essential for ensuring peace, reconciliation, and justice. He stated that the claims made by Armenia regarding these individuals effectively amount to justifying these crimes and do not serve the peace process.
Mammadov criticized the chair of the Armenian parliament's Standing Committee on Human Rights for justifying war crimes and engaging in ethnic discrimination. He urged Lilit Galstyan to focus on genuine human rights issues, such as ensuring the right of return for hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia and clarifying the fate of 4,000 missing Azerbaijanis.
