Ilham Aliyev and Head of Russia's Chechen Republic Visit Baku White City

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Head of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation Ramzan Kadyrov visited Baku White City on October 10.

Operativ Media reports that Ruslan Sadikhov, Executive Director of the Baku White City project, briefed the Head of Russia's Chechen Republic on the conditions created at the development.

It was noted that the area was previously known as "Black City." Polluted with oil industry waste for more than 150 years and once covered with numerous oil ponds, the site was transformed into a modern residential district through a globally unique environmental project launched on the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan.

Considered one of the world's finest examples of modern urban planning, the implementation of the Baku White City project was launched on December 24, 2011, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The project was developed based on environmentally friendly, sustainable, and "smart city" principles. Baku White City features wide internal avenues, green spaces, modern international sculptures, and the latest innovations in urban planning.
