Media and Broadcasting Council: Iran's Sahar TV broadcast disinformation
Iran's "Sahar" ("Sahar Azeri") television channel linked footage from an event held in Turkey's Diyarbakir province to Azerbaijan, presenting it as a rally organized in Azerbaijan in support of women wearing hijabs.
Operativ Media reports that this was stated in an announcement by the Media and Broadcasting Council.
It was noted that this presentation, which distorts the location and nature of the event, represents a gross falsification of facts, a deliberate attempt to manipulate public opinion, and a clear example of disinformation serving to mislead the audience:
"The activities of this television channel are characterized by the dissemination of biased, untrue information directed against Azerbaijan and misleading public opinion through provocative content. The channel's systematic distortion of events related to our country, its regular inclusion of disinformation materials, and an approach aimed at forming a negative perception of Azerbaijan show that this activity is the main direction of its information policy."
The Media and Broadcasting Council stated that the channel was blacklisted precisely because of such consistent and biased activities.
"The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on media entities to ensure factual accuracy and objectivity in news dissemination, to refrain from presentations that manipulate public opinion and distort the essence of events, and urges the public to take a critical approach to such posts, verify information using reliable sources, and avoid becoming a tool for the spread of disinformation," the statement emphasized.
