Luis Suarez becomes Sporting's all-time top scorer in Champions League
Sporting CP's Colombian forward Luis Suarez has become the top scorer in the club's history in the current format of the UEFA Champions League.
Operativ Media reports, citing UEFA's official website, that the 28-year-old forward achieved the milestone by scoring in a 2-0 away win against French club Lens in Round 2 of the league phase.
Opening the scoring in the 22nd minute of the match, Suarez netted his 7th Champions League goal for Sporting. He moved to the top of the list by surpassing Liedson, Francisco Trincão, and Viktor Gyökeres, who all previously held the record with six goals each.
Suarez joined Sporting from Spanish club Almeria in the summer of 2025. Having scored five goals in the Champions League last season, the striker also finished as the top scorer in the Portuguese league with 28 goals.
In total, he scored 38 goals in 53 appearances for the team during the 2025/2026 season.
