Four resolutions on Azerbaijan readopted at OIC session
The 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has been held in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
Operativ Media reports that this was shared on the Foreign Ministry's "X" account.
Azerbaijan was represented at the session by a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalcin Rafiyev.
During the event, discussions were held on topical issues on the agenda of OIC member states, regional and international challenges, developments and significant events across the OIC region, as well as expanding cooperation among member states and enhancing the efficiency of the organization's activities.
Speeches were delivered during the main plenary session and at a special session dedicated to the theme "Dialogue and Solidarity as Two Main Pillars in Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development."
In his speeches, Rafiyev expressed concern over military conflicts and rising tensions in the region, as well as the growing global trend of Islamophobia. He also addressed the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Palestinian issue, and the priorities of Azerbaijan's upcoming chairmanship of the OIC Summit Conference.
At the conclusion of the session, resolutions covering political, economic, humanitarian-cultural, and several other fields were adopted, along with the Baghdad Declaration.
One of the main key outcomes of the session for Azerbaijan was the readoption, with relevant updates, of four traditional resolutions regarding the country by the OIC CFM ("Elimination of the consequences of the aggression of the Republic of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan," "Economic assistance to the Republic of Azerbaijan," "Destruction and desecration of Islamic historical and cultural monuments and traces in the territories of Azerbaijan as a result of the aggression of the Republic of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan," and "Solidarity with the victims of the 1992 Khojaly massacre"), as well as the inclusion of a clause on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process in the Baghdad Declaration.
The Baghdad Declaration welcomes progress in the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, particularly the initialing of the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the two states, and calls on the Armenian side on behalf of OIC member states to eliminate remaining legal and political obstacles toward signing the peace agreement. It expresses solidarity with the government and people of the Republic of Azerbaijan in efforts to rehabilitate and reconstruct liberated territories, while also calling on OIC member states to actively support demining activities in these areas.
In addition, based on the results of a vote held during the session, Azerbaijani representative Aydin Safikhanli was elected as a member of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission for 2027–2030.
During the event, Rafiyev held bilateral meetings with Gambian Foreign Minister Sering Modou Njie, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Musa Kulaklikaya, and Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Muhammad Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum. Cooperation with these countries within the OIC framework was discussed during the meetings.
