Operativ Media  reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting addressed the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan–Japan relations, with satisfaction expressed over the ambassador’s contribution to expanding bilateral ties during his term in office.

Jeyhun Bayramov’s visit to Japan earlier this year and the discussions held during the visit were recalled with satisfaction. The sides highlighted the importance of continuing political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and developing cooperation in the energy sector. It was noted that Azerbaijan's successful hosting of major international events, including COP29, the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), and the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25), reflects the country's contribution to promoting international cooperation, the sustainable development agenda, and addressing global challenges.

Cooperation within international organizations was also discussed, with both sides emphasizing the importance of mutual support and continued dialogue across multilateral platforms. Special attention was paid to expanding people-to-people contacts and advancing cooperation in education, culture, and sports.

In this context, it was noted that Azerbaijan's unilateral visa-free regime for Japanese citizens serves to boost bilateral relations and tourism exchanges. Existing opportunities to further strengthen mutual interest and cultural ties between the two peoples through sports such as judo and sumo were also highlighted.

The importance of prestigious competitions held in Azerbaijan in these fields was emphasized.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked Ambassador Katsuya Watanabe for his efforts during his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan and wished him success in his future endeavors. The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
