TURKPA: Opening of Zangezur Corridor Will Boost Global Economy
1 min read

Opening the Zangezur corridor could contribute to global economic development, job creation, and the consolidation of peace in the region.

Operativ Media reports that Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), stated this at the 15th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) in Bishkek.

According to him, the significance of the Black Sea region in international trade and transport communications continues to grow. The region serves as a vital conduit connecting East and West, including China and Europe, as well as for the North-South transport corridor.

Hajiyev noted that the region is of strategic importance for supplying non-ferrous metals, gas, and oil from Central Asian countries and other states to global and European markets.

He emphasized that opening transport corridors, particularly the one through Zangezur, is essential for the region to play a key role in the global economy.

The PABSEC Secretary General noted that the Zangezur corridor is approximately 40 kilometers long. Its opening is expected to expand transport capabilities and facilitate the delivery of raw materials and other goods from Central Asia to Europe. Hajiyev stressed that the issue of opening the corridor concerns not only Azerbaijan and Armenia, but also other countries in the region, carrying broader international significance.

Calling on nations to support the initiative, he said: "Opening this corridor will boost not only the region, but also the global economy; it will help create new jobs, strengthen relations between peoples, and help establish peace in the region."

Concluding his speech, he highlighted the importance of developing cooperation among Turkic-speaking peoples, preserving their cultural values, and bringing together diverse cultures and languages.
