Borussia Dortmund secured their first victory of the month by defeating Sabah 2-1 on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League main stage.

Operativ Media reports that Serhou Guirassy scored both goals for the German side, snapping his team's three-match winless streak.

The Dortmund club registered four shots on target in the opening 15 minutes of the match. Guirassy opened the scoring in the 10th minute, capitalizing after Stas Pokatilov spilled a shot from Felix Nmecha.

In the 39th minute, Aden McCarthy restored parity with a header from a Tymoteusz Puchacz free-kick. In the 53rd minute, Guirassy completed his brace following a precise pass from Joey Veerman to secure the victory for his side.

Although Sabah continued to press for an equalizer, they lacked accuracy in their final passes. As a result, Dortmund departed with all three points from the away match.

The result was also highlighted by a number of statistical milestones:

1. Borussia Dortmund ended a three-game winless streak across all competitions, securing their first win of the month.

2. Serhou Guirassy scored his second brace of the current Champions League season, having also netted twice against Villarreal on Matchday 1. The striker also ended his five-game goal drought for Dortmund.

3. Borussia Dortmund became the first European team to defeat Sabah at home this season. The Baku side had previously won all five of their home fixtures, including four in the qualifying rounds.

4. The German club maintained a 100% record against Azerbaijani opponents, winning all five of their encounters. Borussia Dortmund had previously defeated both Qarabag and Gabala twice each.

5. Joey Veerman brought his assist tally for Borussia Dortmund to three, having now recorded an assist in each competition: the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the Champions League.

6. The Dortmund side halted a four-match away losing streak in the Champions League, having previously suffered defeats against Manchester City, Tottenham, Atalanta, and Bodø/Glimt.

7. Serhou Guirassy has now scored five goals in his last five Champions League appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

8. Dortmund failed to keep a clean sheet in their opening three Champions League matches for the second consecutive season, having previously conceded twice against Villarreal and once against Bodø/Glimt.

9. Borussia Dortmund became the first German team to face Sabah in the Champions League.

10. The German side recorded their seventh victory in 11 official matches during the 2026/2027 season, having suffered two defeats so far.
