Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Enter New Phase of Urban Planning Cooperation
On August 17, Dovlatkhan Dovlatkhanov and Ilgar Isbatov, deputy chairmen of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Azizkhon Shovkatov, Deputy Mayor of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, who is on a visit to Baku.
According to information provided by the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture to Operativ Media, the meeting addressed development prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in urban planning and architecture. The sides explored opportunities to expand professional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and new joint initiatives in territorial planning, sustainable urban development, and the creation of modern urban environments.
Particular focus was placed on the projects to establish "Uzbekistan Park" in Baku and "Azerbaijan Park" in Tashkent, their current implementation status, and upcoming phases. It was noted that the designated project areas will not only symbolize friendship, brotherhood, and mutual respect between the two nations, but also become modern recreational spaces for residents and visitors in both capital cities.
The sides also underscored the importance of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), held in Baku this May. It was highlighted that the participation of the President of Uzbekistan in the "Leaders' Segment"—organized at the level of heads of state and government for the first time in the forum's history—created new opportunities to further reinforce cooperation between the two countries in urban planning.
