President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Bishkek on August 31, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
Operativ Media reports that the leaders emphasized the historic significance of the Washington Peace Summit of August 8, 2025, the Joint Declaration signed by President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, witnessed by US President Donald Trump, as well as the initialing of the agreed text of the "Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia."
The export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other commodities from third countries to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, as well as the establishment of trade relations between the two countries were noted as important tangible manifestations of peace dividends. The leaders also welcomed contacts between business circles and exchanged views on opportunities to further expand mutually beneficial economic, trade, and energy cooperation.
The parties noted the important role of the respective state commissions on the delimitation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing the importance of continuing their work in accordance with the agreements reached between the two countries.
The leaders discussed further practical steps regarding the implementation of the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP), which was one of the key outcomes of the Washington Peace Summit, and noted the importance of connectivity projects along the TRIPP.
The leaders positively assessed confidence-building contacts involving parliamentarians and civil society representatives, noting their contributions to strengthening mutual trust and supporting the broader peace agenda.
President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to continue taking steps toward further strengthening lasting peace, advancing the process of normalizing inter-state relations, and enhancing connectivity through direct bilateral contacts.
