The Japanese government believes it is crucial to immediately de-escalate tensions between Washington and Tehran and resume bilateral talks.

​Operativ Media reports that the country's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Minoru Kihara, made a statement on the matter. He emphasized that they are deeply concerned about the reignited military confrontation between the US and Iran, as well as the worsening situation in the region, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.

​Kihara noted that under the current circumstances, the most critical task is to ease military tensions, restore free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, rebuild dialogue between the parties, and reach a final agreement soon, including on the nuclear issue.

​On September 1, the US Central Command announced a series of strikes on targets in Iran. In turn, Iran reported retaliatory strikes against US bases in the Middle East.
