Edin Dzeko to end international career

Bosnia and Herzegovina national team forward Edin Dzeko has announced his retirement from international football.

Operativ Media reports that the 40-year-old forward will play his final match for the national team against Sweden in the Nations League. The match will take place on October 2.

Dzeko stated on his social media account that playing for the national team holds special significance for him. He noted that nearly 20 years have passed since his debut match against Turkey, and the pride he feels wearing the national jersey has never changed.

Having made 151 appearances for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, Dzeko has scored 73 goals. With his participation, the national team qualified for the World Cup finals twice.

Bosnia and Herzegovina competed in the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time at the 2026 World Cup. The team lost 0-2 to the US national team in the round of 32.

In his club career, Dzeko currently plays for Schalke. The Transfermarkt portal values the player's market value at 1 million euros.
