The declining water level of the Caspian Sea is becoming a greater source of concern for the region with each passing year.

Operativ Media reports that Mukhtar Babayev, the President's representative on climate issues, said this at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku.

He noted that Azerbaijan is taking consistent steps to bring this issue to the forefront of the regional and international agenda, as well as to strengthen dialogue among the Caspian littoral states:

“Our main task is to ensure that shared waters do not become a source of tension, but rather a driving force for stability and mutual prosperity. For Azerbaijan, the climate change agenda is a focus of political attention at the highest level.”

Babayev added that the threats posed by climate change are particularly critical for vulnerable and least developed countries.

Notably, the Fourth UN Climate Week, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, will continue in Baku until September 11. The event discusses the implementation of climate decisions, energy transition, and preparations for COP31.
