Belgian Football Association will not support Infantino

The Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) has announced that it will not support Gianni Infantino's candidacy in the upcoming FIFA presidential election.

Operativ Media reports that KBVB head Pascale Van Damme stated the decision is based on two main principles. According to Van Damme, there is insufficient information regarding the key motives and evaluation criteria for several major decisions related to the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, raising questions about the transparency and governance of the process.

The association also noted that there are unanswered questions in the ongoing investigation regarding Folarin Balogun's red card during the 2026 World Cup, a process in which the KBVB has been directly involved.

In July, Gianni Infantino reportedly proposed the creation of a company called FIFA Forward Enterprise. The company was planned to oversee FIFA's major men's and women's tournaments. According to the organization's estimates, the project could generate $4.2 billion in revenue.

The proposal was not supported by UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). However, the Confederation of African Football, the Argentine Football Association, and several other national federations have expressed support for Infantino.

The 56-year-old Gianni Infantino has led FIFA since February 2016. The organization's next presidential election will be held in March 2027, with the deadline for submitting candidacies set for November 18.
