More than 100,000 people sign petition regarding Infantino

More than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling for an investigation into the activities of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Operativ Media reports that Reuters published this information, citing the non-profit organization FairSquare.

In August, FairSquare appealed to FIFA's governance, audit, and compliance committee, demanding that Gianni Infantino be declared ineligible to run for another term as the organization's president.

The organization had previously submitted a complaint to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). FairSquare claimed that Infantino violated a pledge he made in 2020 to act independently of commercial and political interests. However, the IOC declined to review the appeal.

In July, it was reported that Infantino proposed the creation of a company called FIFA Forward Enterprise. The company was intended to oversee FIFA's major men's and women's tournaments. According to the organization's estimates, the project could have attracted $4.2 billion in funding.

The initiative was not supported by UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation, and CONMEBOL.

The 56-year-old Gianni Infantino has led FIFA since February 2016. The organization's next presidential election is scheduled for March 2027, with the deadline for submitting candidacies set for November 18.
