Sabah forward Joy-Lance Mickels has given an extensive interview to the BBC ahead of his team's UEFA Champions League league phase matchday 1 clash against Manchester United.

Operativ Media reports that the 32-year-old experienced forward, who has not hidden his childhood support for the Manchester side, described the opportunity to play at Old Trafford following the draw as one of the most special moments of his career:

"Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in world football. Starting the tournament here is a matter of great pride, but we did not come here just to enjoy the atmosphere. Our main goal is to represent Sabah and Azerbaijan as a whole at a high level, and to prove that we deserve to play at this level.

I am proud of my Rwandan origin. I hope that playing at this level will inspire young Rwandan footballers and show them that any peak can be conquered with hard work and patience.

Facing giants like Manchester United and Barcelona is exciting, but we respect all of our opponents. We want to return from England with points and make things difficult for every opponent."

Tomorrow's match between Manchester United and Sabah will kick off at 23:00.
