The United States has withdrawn from the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), which was established by the Council of Europe in 1999.

Operativ Media reports that ABC News reported this, citing a US State Department spokesperson.

According to the television channel, the US has sent an official notification regarding its withdrawal from the organization. The Council of Europe expressed regret over the decision and voiced hope for the resumption of cooperation.

A statement from the Council of Europe noted that "GRECO remains open to resuming cooperation with the US in the context of joint efforts to prevent corruption."

Both member and non-member states of the Council of Europe are eligible to participate in GRECO. The United States joined GRECO in 2000.
