Ronaldo could face suspension for leaving national team
Portugal national team forward Cristiano Ronaldo could face a suspension from international matches for one to six months and a fine of €500 to €1,000 for leaving the team without permission.
Operativ Media reports, citing the publication A Bola.
Under the disciplinary regulations of the Portuguese Football Federation, the 41-year-old player could be banned from national team matches for a certain period. He could also face a financial penalty.
On September 30, Portugal national team head coach Jorge Jesus announced at a press conference that Ronaldo would not play in the match against Denmark on October 1. The player also did not feature in the previous round's match against Norway (2-1).
Following this, Ronaldo announced his decision to leave the Portugal national team camp, stating he would reveal the truth about his reasons when the time comes. Although Jesus and Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proenca tried to persuade the 41-year-old forward to change his mind at Copenhagen Airport, the player refused.
On October 1, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Ronaldo had arrived in Madrid.
Ronaldo has made 234 appearances and scored 146 goals for the Portugal national team. He won the European Championship with the national team in 2016 and has also won the Nations League twice.
