1 min read

The number of crimes committed in Azerbaijan using new information technologies is on the rise.

Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said this in a joint interview with Trend News Agency and REAL TV, Operativ Media reports.

The prosecutor general stated that these new types of crimes include the illegal online sale of drugs, cybercrime, and other offenses committed using information technologies.

"Unfortunately, the number of cybercrimes is increasing day by day," Kamran Aliyev noted.

According to him, criminals are exploiting the capabilities of new technologies, including artificial intelligence.

"Chapter 30 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan is dedicated to cybercrimes and contains three articles. These articles cover acts such as illegal access to and interference with information systems," the prosecutor general said.

Kamran Aliyev noted that approximately 40 to 50 percent of crimes currently committed involve the use of new information technologies.

The prosecutor general emphasized that this situation makes it necessary for prosecutors and other law enforcement officers to continuously improve their knowledge and skills in this field.
