Former France striker Thierry Henry has commented on the situation surrounding Portugal national team player Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from the squad.

Operativ Media reports that Henry's remarks were published by RMC Sport.

Portugal national team head coach Jorge Jesus had previously announced that he promised Ronaldo he would play in the Nations League match against Norway (2-1), but later changed his plans.

On September 30, Jesus stated that the 41-year-old striker would not feature in the match against Denmark (4-2). Following this, Ronaldo announced his decision to leave the national team camp, saying he would reveal the truth about the reasons for his departure when the time comes.

Although Jesus and Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proenca tried to persuade the player to change his mind at Copenhagen Airport, Ronaldo refused.

Henry stated that he was not present at the meeting between Ronaldo and Jesus and believes the issue is a matter for the parties involved.

"You cannot judge his entire career based on this situation. When I think of Ronaldo, I won't remember this incident at all. He is a legend. What he has given to football is incredible. We have repeatedly highlighted his efforts at the World Cup. This will most likely be his last tournament. If it all ends like this..." Henry said.

The former French footballer particularly emphasized Ronaldo's character, his dedication to football, and his attitude toward records and the desire to be the best.

"The main thing I like about him is his character, how he lives and breathes football. His physical condition is also better than at the start of his career. It's incredible. Without this commitment, we wouldn't know this player. We have shared great moments with him. I have huge respect for Ronaldo, as well as Messi and all the players who manage to stay at the top," Henry added.
