German Embassy in Baku hosts reception on National Unity Day
The German Embassy in Azerbaijan has hosted an official reception in Baku to mark the country's national holiday, German Unity Day.
Operativ Media reports that the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Germany were played at the beginning of the event.
Speaking at the event, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dirk Lölken spoke about the history of German Unity Day and the development of relations between the two countries.
The diplomat noted that new ambassadors usually hope their appointments will usher in a new phase in bilateral relations. According to him, his arrival in Azerbaijan coincided with such an important event.
“On the very day my wife and I arrived in Baku in July, President Ilham Aliyev left for Berlin to sign the 'Strategic Agenda' document with the Federal Chancellor of Germany. This has truly raised our relations to a new and unprecedented level,” the ambassador said.
Dirk Lölken also touched upon the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing that Germany highly values this process.
“This will take time, but lasting reconciliation in the region must be the foundation for economic progress and international cooperation,” the diplomat said.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to the countries that supported Germany during its reunification process. Emphasizing the importance of defending the principles of that era, he stated that Germany would continue its activities as a member of the European Union.
Dirk Lölken also stated that Germany would continue to support Ukraine: “We will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
The reception was attended by Azerbaijani officials, members of the Milli Majlis, diplomats, media representatives, and other public figures.
