Nicaragua announces withdrawal from Central American Parliament
1 min read

The Nicaraguan authorities have decided to terminate the country's participation in the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN).

Operativ Media reports that 38 members of the Nicaraguan parliament have declared their support for the government's decision. They described the refusal to continue implementing the agreement on the activities of PARLACEN and other relevant political bodies as a sovereign decision of the country.

Nicaragua's co-chair Rosario Murillo had previously announced that the country would withdraw from PARLACEN. She stated that Nicaragua had informed the parliament's leadership of the immediate termination of its participation in the agreement on the organization's activities.

According to Murillo, PARLACEN does not fully perform its functions in the interests of the population of the entire region.

The Central American Parliament includes Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. Decisions adopted by the organization are advisory in nature.
