Turkey may establish a base in Saudi Arabia amid plans to expand its military presence in the kingdom as part of the Mecca Defense Pact.

Operativ Media reports, citing the "Türkiye" newspaper.

According to the report, Turkey will participate in protecting four major gas and electricity facilities in Saudi Arabia using short- and medium-range air defense systems. The number of troops to be deployed to the region will be determined in the coming days.

The decision to send a Turkish military contingent to Saudi Arabia will be made by the Saudi parliament, which is expected to happen in October.

Earlier reports indicated that Ankara will send a limited contingent and military equipment to Saudi Arabia in the coming weeks. Starting in 2025, Turkey will deploy more than 200 military specialists, technical teams, air defense, and electronic warfare systems to the country to protect critical infrastructure.
