Protests in France increase risk of financial crisis
1 min read

Protests in France that began in late September and have since spread nationwide have reportedly exposed the country's growing financial problems and increased the risk of a serious crisis in Europe.

Operativ Media reports that CNN, in an article on the matter, noted a high probability of the situation in France spreading to other countries and the eurozone as a whole.

According to Angel Talavera, chief European economist at the consulting firm Oxford Economics, the crisis spreading to other countries and the eurozone could lead to a severe crisis across the entire region.

The protests began in late September with demonstrations by high school students in the capital region of Île-de-France. The demonstrations later spread to various parts of the country, leading to clashes between protesters and police in some cities.

During a demonstration in the commune of Lens in the northern Pas-de-Calais department, preliminary reports indicate that one participant's hand was severed below the wrist.

Since the protests began, police and gendarmerie officers have detained more than 6,600 people. Minors reportedly account for 90 percent of those detained.
