AFFA does not support UEFA's position on FIFA
The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) was the only UEFA member that did not support the call for reforms in the FIFA leadership.
Operativ Media reports, citing the UEFA press service.
According to the statement, UEFA and its national federations reached a common position on implementing reforms in the FIFA leadership, with AFFA being the sole association not supporting the initiative. The national associations reaffirmed their loss of confidence in the current leadership of the international governing body.
UEFA's statement noted that institutional reforms alone would not be sufficient. The organization stated that FIFA needs a new leadership that commands trust in the football world, can unite different regions, and possesses a strategic vision and administrative experience.
FIFA is currently led by Gianni Infantino, who was elected to the post in February 2016 and subsequently re-elected twice unopposed. The next elections are scheduled to take place in Morocco in March 2027, and Infantino has announced his intention to run again.
In July, Infantino proposed selling a portion of the World Cup's broadcasting and other commercial rights to private investors. Although FIFA stated that this project would increase the revenues of member associations and contribute to the development of global football, the initiative met with severe criticism from federations and football officials.
