Montella: "Turkey will always hold a special place in my heart"
Italian head coach Vincenzo Montella has bid farewell to the Turkey national team following his dismissal on October 9.
Operativ Media reports that the 52-year-old manager shared a post on his social media account expressing his gratitude to the Turkish Football Federation, players, coaching staff, and fans.
Montella emphasized that serving as head coach of the Turkish national team was a great honor for him. Recalling his appointment to the role three years ago, he expressed his gratitude to former federation president Mehmet Büyükekşi and his team for their trust.
The Italian manager made special mention of the players' dedication, hard work, and commitment to the team. He said the heartfelt messages he received from players following his departure were a testament to the strong bond between them.
Montella also thanked his coaching staff, current Turkish Football Federation president İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu, and the federation itself. He particularly highlighted the role of fans who supported the team around the world.
The manager noted that together with the Turkish national team, they had shared unforgettable moments, achieved historic successes, and overcome challenges. He added that he would always cherish the affection shown by the Turkish people and the memories created during this time.
Montella stressed that a manager's work is not measured solely by results and trophies, noting that how one is remembered after leaving a country is just as important as their achievements.
He expressed hope that the emotions he, along with his players and coaching staff, gave to the fans would remain in the memory of the Turkish people with love and respect.
“Thank you, Turkey! This country will always hold a special place in my heart,” Montella wrote in his post.
