Joy-Lance Mickels: "We must perform better in the match against Borussia"
Sabah FC's Rwandan forward Joy-Lance Mickels spoke about the victory over Slavia, his goal, and being named man of the match.
Operativ Media reports that the striker first addressed the strength of the opponent and the flow of the game:
“We knew a tough match was awaiting us. We anticipated how Slavia would play on the pitch and prepared accordingly. Although we tried to play our game, it wasn't easy. In the Champions League, all teams are champions of their countries, and in a tournament like this, you can encounter any scenario.”
Mickels discussed the improvement in the second half and shared his expectations for the upcoming match:
“I think we were a bit lucky in the first half. After the break, we returned to the pitch stronger, and our play improved. However, we must perform even better in the match against Borussia. We are proud of this victory. I thank the fans who supported us at the stadium. I hope even more fans will fill the stands for next week's match against the Dortmund team, and their support will give us extra strength.”
The forward also reflected on his special goal in the match:
“This goal holds special significance for me. To be honest, I was a bit lucky with the shot. But in the end, what matters most is that the ball went into the net. Scoring again in the Champions League gives me a special feeling.”
He also commented on receiving the man of the match award:
“I am pleased to receive this award. However, Akim Zedadka played very well, and Ivan Lepinjica also performed excellently. I even think some of my teammates deserved this title more than I did. They played truly magnificently in defense. Nevertheless, I am proud to win an individual award. This is the first such achievement in Sabah's history. Thank you for this.”
