Hikmet Hajiyev shares documentary on history of German-Azerbaijani coexistence
Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, has shared "Counterpoint," a documentary chronicling the two-century history of coexistence between Germans and Azerbaijanis.
Operativ Media reports that Hajiyev made the post on his social media account on X.
The film details the history of Swabian families who migrated from the territory of present-day Baden-Württemberg, Germany, to settle in Azerbaijan.
“The documentary reflects how German settlers and local Azerbaijanis built prosperous communities while preserving their distinct religions, languages, and traditions, as well as the impact of Soviet repression, deportations, and war on this shared history.
Through the film, the legacy of German-Azerbaijani coexistence, its preservation to this day, and issues of keeping cultural memory alive are explored based on the insights of representatives of different generations, historians, and diplomats,” he noted.
COUNTERPOINT DOCUMENTARY Counterpoint traces two centuries of #German-#Azerbaijani coexistence, beginning with Swabian families who left what is now Baden-Württemberg and established settlements in Azerbaijan. The documentary explores how German settlers and local Azerbaijanis built prosperous communities while preserving their different faiths, languages and traditions — before Soviet repression, deportations and war disrupted that shared history. Through descendants, historians and diplomats, the film examines what remains of that legacy today and how cultural memory has survived.
