Laporta: “It is impossible to imagine football without Lamine Yamal”
Barcelona president Joan Laporta praised Lamine Yamal's play and spoke about the footballer's contract extension through 2031.
Operativ Media reports that Laporta made these comments ahead of the Barcelona vs. PSG match scheduled for today, October 20. He stated that the 19-year-old winger stands out for both his style of play and his mindset.
“Lamine's play is a real spectacle. He is one of those players who knows how to bring joy to the fans. Lamine is a genius. There is a special magic and entertainment value in his game. It is not just about his playing style, but also his mentality. Today, it is impossible to imagine football without Lamine,” Laporta was quoted as saying by L’Équipe.
The club president also commented on the extension of Yamal's contract through 2031 in the spring of 2025, stating that the negotiations were wrapped up very quickly.
Laporta highlighted that the winger is a product of the La Masia academy and stressed his loyalty to the club. He noted that Yamal was 15 years old when he made his debut for Barcelona, and now, at age 19, he can already be considered an experienced player.
In the 2026/2027 season, Yamal has made 11 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 9 goals and providing 11 assists. The Spanish footballer won the Golden Boy award as Europe's best young player in 2024 and finished second in the Ballon d'Or voting in 2025.
