A total of 221 goals were scored in 54 matches across the first three matchdays of the UEFA Champions League main stage in the 2026/2027 season, setting the highest mark for this phase in the tournament's history.
Operativ Media reports, citing UEFA's official website, that 74 goals were scored in 18 matches played on October 20-21. This is a record for a third matchday and the second-highest overall matchday tally. A total of 78 goals were scored in the second matchday of the current season.
Teams scored 69 times on the opening matchday. As a result, the average across the three matchdays reached 4.09 goals per game.
The previous record was set in the 2025/2026 season, when 200 goals were scored in the first three matchdays. This season's figure represents an increase of 21 goals.
The highest-scoring matchday in Champions League history was the second round of the current season, where at least five goals were scored in nine of the 18 matches. Aston Villa defeated Fenerbahce 6-0, while Liverpool beat LASK 6-3.
Two other matches finished 4-3, with Roma losing to Real Madrid and Inter falling to Club Brugge.
The third matchday also produced two high-scoring fixtures, as Liverpool beat Villarreal and Napoli defeated Bodo/Glimt, both by 4-3 scorelines.
According to UEFA figures, the previous scoring record for a third matchday was 71 goals, set during the 2025/2026 season. The statistics include group stage results since the 1992/1993 season, as well as the main stage format introduced in 2024.
