Manchester United consider Eddie Howe to replace Michael Carrick
Manchester United are searching for a replacement for manager Michael Carrick, with former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe reported to be a leading candidate.
Operativ Media reports, citing talkSPORT.
According to the source, the club's sporting director Jason Wilcox supports bringing the 48-year-old English manager to the team. Howe has been out of work since leaving Newcastle in July.
The experienced manager led Newcastle to the UEFA Champions League twice and won the English League Cup in 2025, ending the club's 70-year trophy drought. It is reported that Howe is open to returning to coaching and would view an offer to manage Manchester United favorably.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick's situation is described as uncertain. Manchester United currently sit 13th in the English Premier League, having won just two of their opening 11 matches.
In addition, team captain Bruno Fernandes publicly criticized the manager's tactics following a 1–4 defeat to Como in the UEFA Champions League.
Carrick is expected to remain in his post for the upcoming match against Bournemouth on October 25. However, further poor results could reportedly lead to his departure.
