Asian Cup to be held in new format starting from 2032

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has changed the format of the Asian Cup. Under the new decision, the tournament will henceforth be held in even-numbered years.

Operativ Media reports, citing the organization's official website.

The 2027 Asian Cup will be the final tournament under the current schedule. The following tournament is planned for 2032. The host country has not yet been determined.

One of the reasons for the change is aligning the elections for the AFC leadership with the tournament schedule. Under the new system, the confederation's election cycle will be linked to the timing of the Asian Cup.

The next election for the AFC presidency will take place in 2027. The elected officials will assume office on January 1, 2028, and serve until 2032.

Notably, the 2027 Asian Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to February 5, featuring 24 national teams.
