US official: Nearly 9 million barrels of oil transported daily through Strait of Hormuz
About 8 to 9 million barrels of oil are transported daily through the Strait of Hormuz.
Operativ Media reports that US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright announced this during an appearance on Fox News. He noted that this volume of oil is shipped through the strait every day.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing satellite data, that an average of 26 ships passed through the strait daily in July—a fivefold decrease compared to pre-conflict levels. According to the publication, only 14 ships passed through the area on August 11.
However, Chris Wright asserted that those figures do not reflect reality. The secretary explained that while commercial satellite companies are successful businesses, the region is currently difficult to observe due to ongoing conflicts, making it complicated to accurately capture the real situation as they attempt to do.
