Kyrgyzstan hands over SCO chairmanship to Pakistan
Kyrgyzstan has concluded its chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and handed it over to Pakistan.
Operativ Media reports that this was announced following a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan's 2025-2026 chairmanship was held under the motto "25 Years of the SCO: Together for Lasting Peace, Development, and Prosperity." Its primary outcome was the jubilee summit, which saw the signing of the Bishkek Declaration on the organization's 25th anniversary, along with 27 other documents.
The adopted decisions cover regional security, drug control, artificial intelligence, information security, energy, transport and logistics, climate, and biodiversity conservation.
The Pakistani city of Lahore has been declared the SCO tourism and cultural capital for 2026-2027.
