A meeting of the co-chairs of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran has been held as part of a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran by an Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

Operativ Media reports that the meeting focused on the current state of relations in economic, trade, transport, communication, and humanitarian fields, as well as other issues of mutual interest and prospects for developing cooperation.

The sides discussed the implementation of agreements reached and measures outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the 17th meeting of the State Commission held in Baku in February this year.

The deputy prime minister noted that the active political dialogue and friendly relations between Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Masoud Pezeshkian have provided a significant boost to the development of bilateral ties.

He specifically highlighted the meeting between the two leaders in Bishkek.

Reviewing the work accomplished over the past period, Shahin Mustafayev emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of agreed projects and continuing coordinated efforts between relevant agencies.

During the talks, the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor and increasing its capacity were among the key topics of discussion in the transport and transit sector.

The completion of the construction of the Aghband-Kalala highway bridge was noted with satisfaction, and issues regarding the commissioning of border-crossing infrastructure were discussed.

The measures taken to complete work at the Astara cargo terminal and expand its cargo handling capacity were also reviewed.

The sides exchanged views on promising infrastructure projects between the two countries.

An agreement was reached during the meeting to continue efforts toward developing mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, consistently implementing the agreements reached at the 17th meeting of the State Commission, and accelerating the execution of joint projects.
