Historic goal record set in Champions League
A total of 78 goals were scored across 18 matches in Round 2 of the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 league phase, making it the highest-scoring round in the tournament's history.
Operativ Media reports that teams averaged 4.33 goals per match.
Among the highest-scoring matches of the round was Club Brugge's 4-3 victory over Inter. Liverpool defeated LASK 6-3, Real Madrid beat Roma 4-3, and PSG won 4-2 against Manchester City.
The previous record was set during the 2025/26 season. In Round 3 of that season's league phase, 71 goals were scored in 18 matches, averaging 3.94 goals per game.
Notably, starting from the 2024/25 season, the Champions League group stage was replaced by a 36-team league phase. Under the new format, 18 matches are played in each round instead of the previous 16.
