“For peace to be sustainable, it is crucial to strengthen reconciliation and trust, reconstruct post-conflict territories, carry out humanitarian demining, ensure the safe and dignified return and reintegration of internally displaced persons, develop regional connectivity, and create favorable conditions for sustainable economic development.”

Operativ Media reports that Rizvan Nabiyev, a member of the Milli Majlis representing Azerbaijan at the organization, said this during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

Touching upon Azerbaijan's post-conflict experience, the MP noted that Armenia's long-term occupation had severely damaged Azerbaijan's historical, religious, and cultural heritage. He added that following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, large-scale restoration and reconstruction, the revival of religious and cultural heritage, as well as humanitarian demining operations, are being carried out in the liberated territories.

Drawing attention to Azerbaijan's peace agenda, Rizvan Nabiyev stated that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan initiated the peace process with Armenia after restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The MP highlighted the initialing of the text of the Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington in August 2025 as an important milestone in the peace process.

Rizvan Nabiyev emphasized that the peace process should not be limited to political agreements but must be accompanied by concrete “peace dividends.”
