Investments in Greenland will be carried out with US consent under an agreement reached regarding the island.

Operativ Media reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this in an interview with Fox News.

According to Rubio, under the agreement, which is currently in force and of indefinite duration, no competitor of the US will be able to invest in the island without the consent of Washington, as well as Greenland and Denmark.

The Secretary of State said the agreement will allow the US to build new military facilities in Greenland to establish a North American missile defense system.

As a reminder, last week US President Donald Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen signed an agreement transferring responsibility for securing the island to the US.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Earlier, Trump stated that the US would immediately begin increasing its military presence on the Arctic island.
