​Qarabağ's Spanish midfielder Joni Montiel made a statement to the press following the goalless draw against Bulgaria's CSKA in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

​Operativ Media reports that the player said he was touched by the fans applauding him when he came on in the second half, calling it a pleasant surprise. He emphasized that he and his family feel very happy in Baku and that he will do everything he can to stay with the Aghdam representative and help the team.

​Evaluating the match, Montiel noted that they performed better in the second half, that the tie will be decided in the second leg, and that both sides have equal chances.

​The midfielder denied rumors regarding disciplinary breaches and being sent to the reserve squad. The Spanish player stated that his omission from the squad list in the previous round was purely the head coach's decision, adding that he has never had any disciplinary issues throughout his career.

​Recalling that he underwent surgery at the end of last season, Montiel added that he is currently working to regain his physical fitness, and that internal competition within the team only benefits the common cause.
