U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin promised him they would not sell weapons to Iran.

Operativ Media reports that Trump shared the statement in a post on his social media account.

According to Trump, the assurance provided by Xi Jinping also applies to Chinese arms manufacturing companies.

The U.S. president added he believes China and Russia are currently not involved in any potential arms supplies to Tehran.

Trump noted that doing otherwise could result in "very bad consequences" for both countries.
